Why a Child and Youth Care Practitioner Started Innovative Living Solutions

Jennifer, CYCP

For more than 20 years, I've worked as a Child and Youth Care Practitioner, supporting children and families through everyday routines, big changes, and all the small moments in between. Much of that work happened inside real homes and real schedules, where the question usually wasn't "what's the ideal setup?" but "what can we actually make work this week?"

Innovative Living Solutions grew out of that question.

What I kept noticing

Families and caregivers often asked me some version of the same thing: what should we buy? A different chair, a timer, a pair of headphones, something for a quiet corner. The options felt endless, product claims sounded confident, and it was hard to tell what would fit a particular person, space, or budget.

Caregiving is personal for me too. I've supported members of my own family, so I know how much it takes to sort through all of this on top of everything else.

The question behind every product

Every product in our store is chosen with one question in mind: does this make everyday life easier, so people can focus on living, connecting, and thriving?

That means looking at practical things: how a product is actually used, who it tends to suit, how well it's made, and whether it's backed by a warranty. It also means leaving something out when the answer isn't clear.

What ILS is, and what it isn't

Innovative Living Solutions is Canadian-owned and operated. We're an authorized Canadian retailer, we carry genuine products with manufacturer warranties, and we ship across Canada.

What we're not is a replacement for professional advice. Every person is different, and what feels supportive can change from one day to the next. The products here are options to consider, never requirements, and you're the best judge of what fits the people you care for, including yourself.

What's coming next

Starting today, Care & Comfort Guides will share two posts a week: practical explanations on Mondays, and help with choosing and setting things up on Thursdays. Upcoming topics include noise and comfort at home, making room for active bodies, visual timers and transitions, and building spaces that work for your household.

If you'd like a place to start, our free guide, Creating a Calm & Reset Space, walks through elements to consider for a comfortable, predictable spot to pause. You can also browse the store.

Thank you for being here. I'm glad you found us.
